How to finish

I really want to get this belt finished, but I'm still sans Stiff Stuff, so, the medallions have had to go on the back burner. But, I did take the liberty of pinning the belt onto my exercise pants to see how it would look, and I'm pleased as punch!

The piece that I had previously planned to use as a headdress, is now the front panel of the belt. And there is just about enough space on each hip for a 3" medallion. How hot is that?

And I haven't really had a chance to spend any time beading, but I did finish the length of thread I'd started on the elephant. So far so good.

Oh, and I think I might bring my Nefertare collars back out. I wore one to class yesterday, and it received so many compliments, that I thought it might be smart to make a few different ones. Violet, our Yoga teacher, did mention (more than once) that she'd like to see one done in Amethyst. I'll have to hunt through my stash here... I think one would look awesome in pearls too.

That belt is going to be yummy! Do you have a sewing/fabric shop nearby? You can use thick interfacing (not the iron-in kind) instead of Lacy's Stiff Stuff--and it's much cheaper! I love the necklace, too, by the way!!

The Nefertare collars are stunning!

And as for the belt, have you checked your local craft store for stiffened felt? My local Michael's has it in an assortment of colors, it's only a $1 or so a fairly large sheet and it seems to work as well as the Stiff Stuff from what I can tell so far. Email me and I can always mail you up some sheets for you to experiment with.

Oh yeah... HUBBA HUBBA you sexy waisted lady you! ;)

I'll have to check for interfacing. Our 'quilt' store is closing (has been for MONTHS! LoL!), so I'll have to take a trip to Walmart or something... Thanks for letting me know about the 'iron-in' kind, as I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to sewing... Now beads on the other hand... ;)

Hey T!

LoL! U make me LAUGH!!! yeah, sexy indeed.... Minus the 'war' wounds... :P

We're still waiting for our Michael's to open, they've been building it for about 5 weeks now, so it should be done shortly. LoL!

I believe it's why so many of our local little craft stores are all closing, they know they'll never be able to compete with the Big Guns... or at least their prices...

Which I totally hate, 'cause every little store in town is like a landmark around here, all been around for decades, and now they're being pushed out by the mass-purchasing giants. So sad. I love those little 'Mom & Pop' operations. Heck I want one! ;)

Jewel's I can not wait to see the finished belt. And I wish I had the guts to wear somethng like that but I just have guts (lots and lots of flabby guts)

Oh, and thank you both for commenting on "Hyacinth", I like it too. Not sure if I could wear it on an 'everyday' basis, but they sure are fun for a special outfit!

Oh, Tanya snuck in on me! What's with this comment box? LoL!

Oh Tanya, I've got 'guts' too, they're just cleverly dissimulated underneath the belt, LMBO! ;)

Actually, when it comes to performing, I do believe I'll be the dancer with the 'mesh' bodice on. I so hate my 'racing stripes' :P

Oh, you're gonna like it Jin, it's going to be such a flashy belt: Imagine two large (3") round, bead embroidered medallions, and some jagged tassels! Oooh, I can't wait! After Tea mentioned the stiffened felt, I kinda remembered having some... somewhere... Darn! Looks like there's going to be more organizing on the way...

Oh, yeah, the, video... hee! hee! hee!Hey, where's YOUR video. I wanna see you baking in action! ;)

I'm with you on the 'mom & pop' shops. I get the best stuff there. The big guns are like the internet with hurting privately only shops. It's finding their niche that will help them stay around. *sigh* Keep shopping at the little guys. It's the only way to keep them going. =)

Nice belt...can't wait to see the finished product plus the teacher in full dress costume.

Thanks Katy. I'll be making a few more of those.

Oh I know Tea, I was SOOOOO happy when our local "Hobby Shoppe" failed to sell. It's a landmark here... I love walking in, it's a late 1800's building. Two doors to get in, the one on the left, takes you to the 'guy' stuff (models and stuff), the door on the right, to the 'girly' stuff (Beads!), but once inside, the two sides are connected by an archway. Fun.

Jin, now I'm *pouting*... Definitely need sound...

Oh Maria, after trying my outfits on, I am TOTALLY in love with the red chiffon-trimmed black satin set. It fits me so well! I think you'd look SMOKIN' in the brown satin set!

I am SO looking into ordering a wholesale bulk load of belts from them! Those long ones I was telling you about!
Lovely hips, I mean belt. I have to visit your site more often!

Hey Cinderelly! Yeah, a bitch about Blogger, eh? I hate when it starts to act up... But I just can't let go of my blogger, I've met so many good friends on here!

Thanks. And oh, yeah, they DO look great in any color. They're opulent, not something you'd wear on a day-to-day basis, but they're soooo nice!
Unknown said…
Oh Maria! You're too funny! Of course you'd do it justice, not in the same 'areas', but I bet it would look awesome on you.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it... ;)
Hoohah, I'll be right over!!
